It’s an interesting one as their interest in the centre-back appear to had gone under the radar. There hadn’t been much talk about a possible move to Elland Road, yet it seems the Whites were involved in the race for his signature.
Unfortunately for them, Castrín had other plans. He’s now agreed to extend his Sevilla contract until June 2030, putting an end to any hopes of getting him on the cheap.
**Leeds made an attempt to sign Castrín**
-----------------------------------------
Spanish outlet [**Ficherio**](https://www.ficherio.com/sevilla/rechaza-a-valencia-real-sociedad-y-leeds-united-por-quedarse-muchos-anos-en-el-sevilla-fc/) brings the details, explaining that Leeds United, Valencia and Real Sociedad all made serious attempts to convince Castrín to leave Sevilla.
The defender’s previous contract was due to expire in June 2027. That opened the door for interested clubs to explore a transfer or potentially wait until he became available for free.
According to the report, Castrín received several approaches from sporting directors. There were financial and sporting offers on the table, with the three clubs pushing to convince him.
So now we know the Yorkshire club were looking at the Sevilla youngster, even if their efforts didn’t lead anywhere.
His new agreement includes a significant salary increase and a €50m (£43.5m) release clause. He’ll now earn a first-team wage, although still below fellow academy graduates Kike Salas and Isaac Romero.
**Why Leeds were looking at him**
---------------------------------
Castrín has been making steady progress through Sevilla’s system, and his numbers help explain why clubs were paying attention.
He spent most of the 2024/25 campaign playing for Sevilla Atlético, the club’s reserve team, before getting more opportunities with the senior side last season.
His involvement has continued into the current campaign, with six LaLiga appearances already under his belt.

The jump in first-team minutes last season is quite encouraging. Castrín went from a single senior appearance in 2024/25 to playing 21 matches for Sevilla in 2025/26. This season he already had brilliant performances against Athletic Bilbao, Valencia and Deportivo La Coruña.
He’s now building on that experience, and Sevilla clearly see him as someone worth keeping around.
For Leeds, the attraction is easy to understand. They were looking at a young defender already getting regular minutes in LaLiga, with a contract situation that could have made a deal possible.
The new agreement changes things considerably. Sevilla have secured his future until 2030 and given themselves protection with that €50m (£43.5m) clause.
There’s no indication of how far Leeds got with their approach, or whether they were preparing a formal bid. Still, their previously unreported interest gives us another name to add to the list of young defenders being considered at Elland Road.
Castrín, meanwhile, looks set to spend a few more years in Andalucía.
