Former Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has rushed to congratulate ex-teammate Anthony Gordon after netting his first goal for Barcelona. The England international has hit the ground running for the La Liga champion after his big-money move from the Magpies in the summer.
Gordon completed the dream move to the Nou Camp after rediscovering his form and love for football at St James' Park. The 25-year-old has been in blistering form with four assists in six games before the international break.
He carried it through the recent England camp with Thomas Tuchel's side as he netted three goals and provided an assist as the Three Lions made it three wins out of four matches in their UEFA Nations League openers. At club level, all that was missing was his first strike for Barcelona.
And his red-hot streak continued as it took him just two minutes to net his maiden goal for the Spanish giants. Taking to Instagram after their 3-0 win over Getafe, he said: "I’m so happy my first goal came at Camp Nou and I got to share it will you all. Seguimos, Visca Barça!!"
Teammates past and present at both club and international level offered support to Gordon after a historic moment for the former Magpies star.
Guimaraes was among those to like the post while Barcelona commented: "Proud."
Jordan Henderson, Gavi, Tommy Doyle, Eric Garcia and Morgan Rogers were among those to comment with positive emojis. Gordon weaved his way through the Getafe defence, with a slight hint of fortune as a few bounces fell in his favour, before a deflected effort wrong-footed David Soria.
The Brazilian's North East departure was different to Gordon as he left unceremoniously in a protracted move to Arsenal. Following his move to Barcelona, Gordon hailed Newcastle for reigniting his love for football following a difficult period with Everton.
He wrote: "I owe this club (Newcastle) a lot because, when I arrived, I was quite lost both in life and in football. The club has given me a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. It's allowed me to do what I always thought I could do.

"It's put me on the biggest stage and allowed me to perform for the shirt.
"Since coming to the club, I feel I've improved a lot on the pitch, but this club has played a big part in the person I've become over the last three-and-a-half years.
"It was really important for me to leave this place in a good way because I've loved every single minute of being a part of Newcastle United. This is an incredible club and one that I'll never forget. I'll be a fan for the rest of my life."
