Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke admitted he "should have scored a hat-trick" against Manchester United on Saturday evening.
United started poorly against Spurs on Saturday evening, conceding several chances, but the away side failed to convert, leaving the door open for Bryan Mbeumo to strike the opener in the 73rd minute.
Five minutes later, Tottenham looked sure to rue their missed opportunities when they went down to 10 men. Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a straight red card after pointing his head toward Luke Shaw, giving Tottenham an uphill battle to climb to salvage a point, but Solanke scored an equaliser in added time.
Solanke spoke to Sky Sports after the final whistle and admitted he he'd had enough chances to have left with a hat-trick.
"In the first half we dominated. We weren't clinical enough – a story of the season. We could have been a few goals ahead. We’ll take a point," Solanke said.
"The character shown was magnificent. A few times we haven’t reacted in the right way when going a goal down but today we showed fight and grit.
"I should have had a hat-trick. I wasn’t clinical enough. I know that. But I kept going. I was getting in the right positions to put one away. It’s my first time being captain, for a great club. To score as well, it’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my career.
"It's something to build on. We haven't been good enough this season. Hopefully this is the start of something good."
Although Tottenham created 1.71 expected goals (xG), they only managed to record three shots on target during the game.
Despite spending £334m in the summer, Spurs have struggled for goals this season, having failed to score in four of their six league games.
