Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has previewed his side's upcoming clash with Manchester City, detailing the "challenge" his team will face at Anfield, while praising the away side as a top team.
It comes as the Reds look to continue showing progress under Andoni Iraola, after a mixed start to the season so far, remaining unbeaten across all competitions, but with work to do on performances and consistency.
Man City will provide the sort of test that the new head coach hasn't faced yet: a team likely to compete to dominate the game rather than letting Liverpool dictate proceedings with the ball.

That could make the game more challenging for the hosts, especially given the quality in the away locker room, but it may also create openings that can be exploited.
The match itself always attracts attention, due to the competitive nature of the two teams at the top over their recent history, with Man City sitting top of the Premier League, providing an interesting insight into the level Liverpool will perform at.
Van Dijk has been there through most of the recent years that the two teams have been building a rivalry, with the captain giving a clear verdict on the opposition ahead of the game.
"Our Premier League campaign resumes and, in my opinion, we could not have a better fixture with which to do so," the Liverpool captain wrote in his Liverpool program notes ahead of the game.

"After a longer gap than usual between league matches, we are all really looking forward to this game, a big and important test for us against the league leaders. I know that the atmosphere will be amazing, as it always is at Anfield, and hopefully we can build on the progress we made before the international break with another good performance and result.
"I have said many times that we are still learning and developing as a team. That is clear, and we accept that, but games like this, tests like this, are extremely important in terms of that development.
"We know the quality that City possess all over the pitch," he continued, praising the away side. "And we will have to be at our best if we are to get what we want. It is a big challenge, but it is one we will relish. These are the games every player looks forward to, for sure."
It comes as a clear verdict on Enzo Maresca's side and the quality it possesses, which travels to Merseyside with the challenge of not only beating Liverpool on the pitch but also dealing with the pressure that will come with it.
Anfield is set to be a hostile atmosphere, even more so than usual for the away team, following the publication of a guilty verdict against Man City in its case with the Premier League on all but one of the charges.
While Man City denies any wrongdoing and has lodged an appeal, that may not stop the feeling of discontent among the home supporters during the match.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can stand up to the test that will be on the players and the manager just as much as the opposition, with plenty of hope from the home crowd that their team can get one over their rivals in the process.
