Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 16-word verdict and declaration on Leeds United defeat at Arsenal

Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Leeds United’s defeat at Arsenal.

Whites no 9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin has saluted a big performance from his Leeds United side in Saturday’s defeat at Arsenal and his Whites pride.

Unbeaten Leeds faced the season’s toughest test yet in Saturday’s return to action after the international break against defending Premier League champions Arsenal at the Emirates but James Justin’s brilliant second-half strike had United on course to take all three points.

Daniel Farke’s side had produced an excellent first-half display in which they had several chances to go ahead and Leeds continued on the front foot after the interval en route to Justin firing them ahead.

Leeds then pushed for a second goal but the Whites were undone at the other end in the 62nd minute as Noni Madueke’s delivery was headed back across goal by Ben White into the path of Riccardo Calafiori who beat James Trafford from close range.

The equaliser lead to a shift in momentum, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners then quickly pushing on in search of a second goal which arrived just eight minutes later as a neat move ended with substitute Bruno Guimaraes firing home a rasping finish after a Declan Rice.

Even then United still pushed on in search of an equaliser but ultimately in vain as Farke’s side suffered a first Premier League defeat of the season.

There was, though, no doubt about the impressive level of performance given the opposition, Calvert-Lewin delivering a proud verdict in a social media post.

Taking to his Instagram page, Calvert-Lewin posted a series of action photographs together with the message: “Big performance from the boys but it wasn’t our day. Proud to play for this club.”
