Frank Lampard does what Matthias Jaissle won't ahead of Coventry City v Newcastle United

Coventry City and Newcastle United team news ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash.

Coventry City have been handed a double injury boost ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

Frank Lampard has confirmed both Milan van Ewijk and Kaine Kesler-Hayden are back in training. Van Ewijk had started each of Coventry’s opening four Premier League matches before missing the 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest last time out, while Kesler-Hayden is yet to feature this campaign.

Meanwhile, Josh Eccles, Luke Woolfenden, Haji Wright and Aurele Amenda remain sidelined.

“Milan is back training, that’s good news,” Lampard said. “We hope he’ll be right if he comes through the next few days.

“Kaine is back training with us, which is good – he’s been out for longer. Josh isn’t back yet, he had a baby recently which is good news for him but he’ll still be a few more weeks potentially.

“Haji and Woolfy will be a bit longer but they're working hard and they're getting there. Aurele is working away, it's up to a three-month injury, so we're working through that."

Newcastle United injury news

Newcastle were without eight senior players for their 2-1 win over Hull City before the international break, but boss Matthias Jaissle expects “three or four” to be back against Coventry.

Unlike Lampard, Jaissle stopped short of naming names, but Will Osula, Nico Gonzalez, Joelinton and Amar Dedic have all since been spotted in training. There was no sign of Dan Burn, Tino Livramento, Jacob Ramsey or Anthony Elanga,

“For now we hope that three, four players are ready to be in the squad,” Jaissle said. “I think Joe[linton], you saw already when you had the possibility to watch the training session last week, he was partially involved there.

“He's now progressing, he's doing better and better. This is something I can tell you because you saw it, but also one or the others are coming back definitely.

“This is helpful for sure but we need to be smart as well in the load management. They have the potential to be in the squad but for sure not in the starting 11.”
