We have been in contact with the Club regarding the recent announcement that the Ticket Forwarding option would be closing earlier than usual for the Hull game on 17th October. We contacted the Club for an explanation as to why this decision has been taken.
The Club advised us that the majority of queries on a match-day are in relation to Ticket Forwarding, where typically tickets have not been accepted in time, not forwarded to the correct account or not shared properly.
On match-day, the Club are finding it is then not the STH in attendance at the Ticket Office, instead it is the intended recipient of the forwarded ticket, and by that time it is difficult to verify that the STH is happy for the person present at the Ticket Office to receive their ticket.
The Club are trialling closing the deadline earlier to allow more time to resolve these issues ahead of match-day, as they simply cannot handle the volume of queries. This ensures that on match-day the Ticket Office is dealing with genuine ticketing / access control issues, not just supporters trying to share season tickets at short/late notice.
Clearly this change has a negative effect on Season Ticket holders who often have to make a late decision on whether they are able to attend a game. From an atmospheric viewpoint it is preferable to have seats occupied rather than empty.
With a finite number of season tickets, queries relating to forwarding should start to reduce as people become more familiar with the process. We will shortly be having our regular monthly meeting with the Club where we will be pressing them to find a solution that allows supporters to forward tickets nearer the game when they unexpectedly find they are unable to attend. In the meantime, we would encourage all Season Ticket holders to familiarise themselves with the forwarding process (Link) and where possible complete this as early as possible.
