Andres loves playing with 'unbelievable' Gross

Chema Andres believes Albion’s 2-0 victory at Sunderland was the ultimate squad effort, while reserving special praise for the "unbelievable" Pascal Gross.

Following a hard-fought triumph at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, the midfielder highlighted the adaptability and resilience of the squad after Albion played for ten men for more than 30 minutes.

"I think we showed that we're a really strong team," Andres said. "Every player, the ones playing from the start, the ones who came from the bench, or the ones who didn't come in, were supporting and pushing forward. I think it was a team win."

Three weeks after the stunning Amex win over champions Arsenal, Albion adapted to a very different challenge and Andres, who started his first away game in the Premier League, thought they did it well.

"Coming to this stadium to play such a strong team was difficult for us, but the team was really good. It was really different to the Arsenal game, but it's the type of game we're going to face during the season. We need to be prepared to face every situation possible."

Andres was also quick to heap praise on Gross, who registered another assist in the victory.

The German now has seven goal involvements in six league matches and became the oldest player to provide an assist in three successive Premier League games since Manchester United's Ryan Giggs, aged 38 years and 68 days, in February 2012.

Andres admitted he didn't fully realise the extent of Gross's quality before arriving at the club but now sees him as the perfect role model.

"To be honest, I have no words for him. He's unbelievable," Andres explained. "Playing with him is so easy. I think he's running the most in the team. In training you can see it. He's always training hard. Even though he's 35, he's training the most, and then on the pitch you see the results.

"Since the first day I came here, I saw the quality he had. He's already become a legend in the club. The hunger and the ambition he has is amazing and he's showing that to all the young players. We see how he works, and we try to follow him."

Albion are third ahead of the start of their UEFA Conference League campaign on Thursday against Kauno Zalgiris at the Amex.

"We like to go match by match," added Andres. "We have a really strong team and we've been doing really good, but we don't need to put ourselves in situations with pressure. We just need to feel free and perform. We know the run we're on, but we need to keep our heads down and keep proving that we're doing good."
