Matthias Jaissle issues hands-off warning to club regarding potential Newcastle sale

Matthias Jaissle looks on during Newcastle United's match against Liverpool

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle won't let Joe Willock go without a fight.

Willock, who is in the final 12 months of his Toon deal, was the subject of heavy interest from Besiktas in the summer.

Besiktas president Serdal Adali even claimed he flew Willock's family out to Istanbul and they picked out a house, only for the 27-year-old to stay put.

Despite the transfer setback, Adali vowed to return for Willock in January, stating 'we really need him here'.

But Willock has made the most of his new lease of life following Jaissle's arrival, so much so that the latter won't entertain any January exit.

What did Matthias Jaissle say about Joe Willock's future?

In response to Adali's comments, Jaissle replied: "Yeah, I hear that every day. I think he's talking about it also every day.

"It's our player. We're really happy with him, and I think you see that also on the pitch.

"He's a top, top player. He can deliver unbelievable performances, and I see even more potential with him, so we are happy that he's here."

Jaissle added he hopes the club can agree a new deal for Willock in the immediate future.

"Yeah, you can definitely imagine that, with how highly I'm talking about him, so there's not the worry from our side," Jaissle said.

Joe Willock's form this season

Under Jaissle, Willock has started five games this term and has scored three goals.

Impressively, the goal haul makes him Newcastle's top scorer this season alongside Harvey Barnes.

Willock's three goals also match how many he scored in the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 27-year-old will look to add even more to his tally when Newcastle travel to Coventry City on Monday evening.

It is a contest Jaissle has looked forward to as he hailed Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard as a 'pure legend' for his exploits on the field.

“You see a clear identity, you see a clear way how they want to play football, and it will be tough on Monday, especially when they play at home with the momentum they have right now," Jaissle said.

“But if we play our football, if we can deliver our potential on the pitch, then I’m positive that we have a great result.”

Lampard's side hope to win just their second match of the campaign, having lost their opening four games.

As for Newcastle, a win over the Sky Blues would lift them up to fourth.
