Wayne Rooney says Crystal Palace's second goal should have been ruled out(Image: PA)

Wayne Rooney has reiterated his demand to get rid of VAR after another video replay controversy.
This one came in Nottingham Forest’s match at Crystal Palace, one which Forest lost 3-1 having absolutely dominated the first half.
However, with the opening period coming to an end and the Reds a goal up through Dan Ndoye, the Eagles levelled through Daichi Kamada. Impossibly they took the lead in first half stoppage time when Jefferson Lerma headed home.
What referee Peter Bankes, nor clearly video assistant Darren England, hadn’t spotted was the ball hit Anan Khalaili’s arm.
Speaking on Match of the Day Rooney was adamant the goal should have been ruled out – and the fact it wasn’t is another example of VAR’s shortcomings.

“The laws of the game are it should have been disallowed because it obviously comes off Khalili's arm – but it was so difficult to spot,” he said.
“We looked at this about 20 times after them and we couldn't spot it, so for VAR it would have been difficult as well to spot.
“It's only when they zoom in, you obviously need more time to see it, but, yeah it should have been ruled out but it wasn't.
“I think we should call it a day with VAR but no, listen, it was very difficult.
“We were looking at it and we looked so many times and we couldn't see it, I think the goal was given to Khalili on other outlets and then they probably took the time to look at it.
“It's a difficult one, but the goal shouldn’t have stood, but it did.”
