Albion are a "really clever" side who are full of confidence.

But can they keep it going over the weeks and months ahead?

That was the reaction to a different kind of performance which appears to have impressed observers.

The Seagulls were organised, resolute, confident and, when it counted, ruthless for a 2-0 success at Sunderland.

Goals from Maxim De Cuyper and Jaouen Hadjam came either side of a red card for Pascal Struijk.

While it was not the spectacle served up at home to Arsenal three weeks (or one game) earlier, it was just as effective and, in its own way, equally pleasing.

Former Liverpool, Spurs and England midfielder Danny Murphy was among those who were impressed as he explained to a BBC TV and online audience.

Match Of The Day pundits suddenly have a lot to say about Albion having barely mentioned them earlier in the season.

Murphy told viewers: "They weren't as relentless as they were against Arsenal. They chose their moments.

"They have got smart players. They are brave, they are confident at the moment.

"They are always looking how they can hurt the opposition."

Looking at an early chance for Diego Gomez, Murphy said: "If you look at Gomez's body position there, he's anticipating the mistake, which is just where they are at the moment.

"Little things like this. The ball goes out. A quick throw-in. Pascal Gross – where's the space? What can I do?

"It doesn't matter home or away, they are always on the front foot.

"Even if you look at the first goal. Four versus four, away from home.

"There's no thought of, you know, be careful, be cautious. 'We're going to go and win the game.'"

Looking at Gross's ball for Maxim De Cuyper to open the scoring, Murphy said: "This is an unbelievable pass. Great awareness.

"And the finish is calm, composed, from De Cuyper.

"There is that little pass from Pascal Gross and that's a lovely finish. Really, really good."

"They defended brilliantly with ten men. They managed the game really well.

"Here, a lot of times you will see, 'Put it in the corner, chase that, get up the other end of the pitch.'

Fans show their support as Albion win at Sunderland

"No, we're fine. We are composed in our play. Hadjam there, spots the danger.

"Doesn't need to go forward and try and score another goal. Could sit in his position.

"But this is the mentality of the group at the moment.

"I think they are a really clever side. They are full of confidence.

"The question is at a moment, of course, can they maintain this level of performance, and keep doing what they are doing?"
