Is the drop in quality that extreme, do you think, between the Premier League and the Bundesliga that an abject flop in English football can re-invent himself back ‘at home’ in Germany’s top league and magically become ‘reborn’?
That, at least, would account for the fact that a player who clearly couldn’t hack it in the top tier of English football suddenly looks a world beater again at the ripe old age of 33.
There are even suggestions that Niclas Fullkrug could be about to get the call from Klopp to recall him into the German National side.
Back in the goals again.. Niclas Fullkrug is becoming a big hit in the Bundesliga
Fullkrug managed just three goals in two seasons at West Ham – where he was on the receiving end of over four million quid a year for his services- and spent over half his claret and blue career in the sick bay. As West Ham fans are trying hard to forget.

And yet, the caterpillar has appeared to emerge as a butterfly again in a new lease of life with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen:
“Celebrating like a madman after scoring against his former side Dortmund” (Talksport),
Fullkrug has now scored four goals in four consecutive games for the first time in his long playing career and more, in a couple of months, than he managed in the whole of his life in east London. Which kind of sucks if you are a West Ham supporter or official still staring at a balance sheet loss of many, many millions of pounds.
Kind of ironic at a time when West Ham can’t seem to score sufficient goals to win games and have dropped six points in their last seven games.
Could Fullkrug have hacked it in the second division? We’ll never know. Whilst it irks to see the German enjoying a renaissance, at least it means that Bremen will hopefully be there with a few million to make his move permanent when the West Ham loan deal expires this summer.
