After squaring off against Arsenal on their home patch over the weekend, the tough tests continue to be thrown Leeds United’s way.
On Sunday, it’s the big one. The one we all look for when the fixtures get released. Man United at Elland Road.
Despite our defeat against the Gunners, the atmosphere surrounding the club is still overwhelmingly positive considering the start to the season we have made and the way Daniel Farke’s side competed against the champions on Saturday.
The same, however, can not be said at our rivals across the Pennines. The pressure is being ramped up on Michael Carrick, whose side are winless in their last four games.
Gary Neville looked ahead to the upcoming game and issued a warning to his former club before they make the trip to West Yorkshire.
Gary Neville fears for Man Utd ahead of Leeds United clash
Over the weekend, Man Utd suffered a kick in the teeth. A ten-man Tottenham Hotspur side equalised at Old Trafford thanks to Dominic Solanke in the 92nd minute.
And it does not get any easier for Carrick’s men. They have to travel to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League before they will be thrown into a cauldron of chaos at Elland Road on the Sunday.
Man Utd’s recent performances have left Neville concerned that they need to improve ASAP. Otherwise they’ll be in for a tough week.
“There’s going to have to be something done in there. The rest of them are going to have to get a grip because they are going to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and Elland Road”, Neville said on The Gary Neville Podcast.
“If you’re not quite right there from a mental and physical perspective, you’re going to get found out.”
Leeds United will be confident coming up against their rivals at the weekend
With how we’ve performed in the vast majority of our games this season, as well as the fact that we took four points from Man Utd last season, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be confident going into that game on Sunday at Elland Road.
As supporters, we know that at times, this Leeds United side can lack quality in the final third. However, Farke has cultivated an atmosphere where he ensures that we are always full of endeavour and energy.
This is a stark contrast to Man Utd. They don’t even look like they’re running for their manager at the minute.
There was a clip that was going round on social media of Bruno Fernandes completley shanking his clearance against Spurs. Then he petulantly turned and somehow blamed his teammates for it.
This sums them lot up at the minute.
On the other hand, Leeds all season have looked like a well-coached unit who are firmly together. We are hard to break down whilst also being physical and full of running.
If we’re as ferocious as we were against Newcastle a few weeks ago, there’s a chance we could overpower and run all over this fragile Man United team when we face them.
And if Atletico Madrid can soften them up for us even more midweek, even better.
