Jaissle apologises to Newcastle fans after heavy defeat to Coventry

Matthias Jaissle

Matthias Jaissle apologised to Newcastle supporters after their 4-1 defeat to Coventry and admitted his side lacked the hunger needed in front of goal.

Newcastle created opportunities but were punished heavily, with Jaissle left frustrated by their play in both penalty areas.

“It’s not the feeling you want on a Monday evening after a match you should win,” Jaissle said.

“We can just apologise to the fans that took the journey, they deserve a different result.”

The Newcastle boss said the performance must now be analysed, despite believing there were some positives.

“We need to analyse it, clearly,” he added.

“I think there were also elements that were good but especially in the boxes both sides, the own goal, we need to improve for sure, to score goals.”

Jaissle felt Newcastle had enough chances to make more of the game but questioned their ruthlessness in attacking areas.

“The opportunities were there today but the desire, the hunger, to score, to finish the attacks, was missing.”
