Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari at the weekend, and the match statistics have raised concerns for the Bianconeri and their supporters. Despite controlling much of the game, Juve struggled to turn their possession and chances into goals.
The result came after Juventus had won back-to-back matches, including an impressive victory against NEC in the Europa League. Those wins had encouraged a side that had been struggling for confidence, making the dropped points against Cagliari particularly frustrating.
Juventus fail to make dominance count
The international break had provided an opportunity for the squad to regroup and return in better form. However, Juventus looked rusty in the opening stages and eventually fell behind, leaving themselves with work to do.
They improved after half-time and found a late equaliser, but they could not complete the comeback. Although avoiding defeat was important, failing to beat Cagliari is not the result the club would have wanted at this stage of the season.
According to Football Italia, Juventus needed 21 shots and 70 per cent possession to score their only goal. The figures underline how difficult they found it to make their control count, despite spending long periods on the front foot.
Finishing remains a concern for Juve
Juventus created opportunities and dominated possession, yet they were unable to finish enough of their chances. That lack of clinical finishing will worry supporters, especially when the team needs consistent results to rebuild confidence and momentum.
The statistics point to an issue the manager will need to address. Possession can help a team control a match, but it means little if chances are wasted and pressure does not translate into goals. Juventus must be more decisive in the final third if they are to turn performances like this into victories.
There is still room for improvement, and the return of injured players could give the squad a boost. More options may help the team perform with greater consistency, but Juventus will still need to take their chances when they come.
The draw with Cagliari is a reminder that control alone is not enough. Juve must become more effective in front of goal if they are to deliver the results their supporters expect.
