Young Ipswich Town goalkeeper George Barrett has returned to Portman Road from loan club Braintree Town after the National League South side sent him back.

The 20-year-old had joined the Essex non-league outfit at the end of August on loan until January, but his spell has now been cut short.

Barrett made 10 appearances for Steve Pitts' side, who are struggling in the sixth tier, keeping one clean sheet.

He has now been replaced in goal at the Iron by Ben Hughes, who has joined on loan from League One club Cambridge United.

The shot stopper returns to Suffolk, but will likely head out on loan again soon, having previously had loan spells at non-league clubs Canvey Island and Enfield Town in 2025/26.

Barrett joined the Blues in the summer of 2025, following a trial after his release by Walsall and has since featured for John McGreal's U21s side.

In other news, young Town duo Archie Brown and Roman Burton-Yurevich have returned to club after their loans at Little Oakley ended.

They joined the Isthmian League North Division outfit last month and went on to make four and three appearances for the Acorns respectively.
