Coventry City's Jack Rudoni sends a get well message to his Nan after scoring his side's first goal from the penalty spot

Jack Rudoni’s poorly nan has responded to her grandson’s heartfelt gesture after the Coventry City star dedicated his goal to her after she’d suffered a heart attack.

The caring midfielder confidently struck home from the penalty spot to give the Sky Blues the early lead against Newcastle United on Monday night – scoring the club’s first Premier League goal on home soil for 25 years, sparking a brilliant 4-1 CBS Arena win.

And the popular player promptly celebrated in front of the Sky cameras by pulling up his City shirt and revealing a ‘Get well soon Nan’ message on a white T-shirt underneath.

He later explained: “Last week she unfortunately had a heart attack. She’s stable, which is good, and she’s a strong woman. That one was for you, Nan, and I just wanted to dedicate that one for her.”

‌

Commenting on CoventryLive’s Facebook post, she responded: “Thank you Jack that really cheered me up! I’m so proud of you and love you so much. Lots of love Nan xxxx”

Asked if it’s been an emotional time for Rudoni and whether he’s needed his support, head coach Frank Lampard said: “Yeah, it happened a week ago and it’s obviously still on-going. I saw his T-shirt so I have, I’ve been there for him and obviously have an understanding of those type of situations. He’s such a great lad, so close with his family and his mum and his nan. I knew that already.

“He’s had a tough period for different reasons with his injuries and being out and he’s so keen. I try and support him in those ways and when I heard the news last week he could have what he wanted from me in terms of support.”

He added: “It hasn’t affected him so much visually. He’s come in and trained and just keen to do what he did tonight. But I know what it means to him so I’m pleased he’s had his moment for his family that he can show that support.”
