Sergej Jakirovic has declared himself pleased with the start made by Hull City in the opening six games of the new Premier League season, though he does want to see an improvement in one key area.

After keeping three clean sheets in their opening three league outings, the Tigers have conceded two in each of the three matches since then at Chelsea and Newcastle United, before another brace in the 2-2 draw at home to Everton on Sunday.

Jakirovic knows his side must cut out the growing number of individual errors which have plagued them in the last three games, which has taken the slight shine off what has undoubtedly been a terrific start.

The 1904 Club Hull City live podcast event

The 1904 Club is heading out of the studio for a special live event at the New Walton Club in Hull, East Yorkshire, on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.

Hull City reporter Barry Cooper will be joined by David Burns and Kathryn Batte for a live podcast recording. In association with Hull City and our sponsors Pickering and Ferens, the event will also feature an exclusive chat with club chairman Acun Ilıcalı and will feature a sit down with assistant head coach Dean Holden (the chairman's appearance is subject to work commitments in Turkey).

Gather your fellow fans and join us at the New Walton Club for an evening of football debate, black-and-amber camaraderie and a chance to celebrate City's Premier League adventure. Tickets are priced at £10 including booking fee. You can purchase your tickets here.

In both of their previous away trips, City have conceded in the opening 10 minutes, which has left their players with a mountain climb, and given the importance of Saturday's visit to struggling Fulham, they can ill-afford to make it a hat-trick of slow beginnings on the road.

"On this stage, they will not miss," Jakirovic told Hull Live. "No way. If they miss, you have been lucky. We will analyse like we always do, we will speak with the players, individually and in groups. We know we have to improve this."

While being unhappy with the manner of the goals being conceded in recent games, the City boss is, however, delighted with the character on show.

That spirit has been a hallmark of his tenure at the MKM Stadium, and will be a huge part of any success the Tigers go on to have in the remaining months of the campaign.

After conceding early at Stamford Bridge, the Tigers came back to lead 2-1 before Joao Pedro pegged them back. A catastrophic opening 10 minutes on Tyneside left City 2-0 down, only to fight back and come agonisingly close to getting a point. Then, on Sunday, after Joe Gelhardt's opener, the Toffees led 2-1 before Mo Belloumi rescued a deserved point.

That ability to fight back, Jakirovic says, is another example of the strength of character inside the Tigers dressing room, something which has been harnessed despite the influx of so many new players over the summer months.

"After we went 1-2 behind, we started to play more, and we were braver with the ball; we played with more courage there and created some good actions. We equalised and also showed the character and mentality of this team, which is good because Everton are not so easy to break down."
