**Ahead of their game against [Leeds United](https://www.leedsallover.com/tag/leeds-united/) at Elland Road on Sunday, Man United were in action last night in the Champions League.**
Michael Carrick’s side had the tough task of travelling to the Metropolitano to square off against Atletico Madrid.
It was a less-than-ideal start for the visitors, who went a goal down inside the opening minute thanks to Pablo Barrios before Ademola Lookman put the finishing touches on a 2-0 win in the 79th minute for Atletico.
This defeat means Man United are winless in their last five games, with three defeats in that run ahead of their trip to West Yorkshire.
But what happened after full-time will shock Leeds supporters, as their side have been handed a major advantage, with a Man United player throwing a bombshell into his own dressing room with an explosive post-game interview.
Man United’s latest defeat piles the pressure on Carrick even more, and a heavy defeat against us could cost him his job, which would be hilarious considering Ruben Amorim’s last game as Man United manager came at Elland Road last season too.
Typically, players’ post-game interviews are pretty bland. However, this was not the case with Lisandro Martinez, who went scorched earth on his club and teammates.
The Argentinian centre-back began by labelling Man United’s performance as “really poor” on Amazon Prime.
The 28-year-old then said, “Sometimes (the defeat) is a reflection in the mirror of our club at the moment.
“We had a fantastic season last season, and we expected more from the top (board). More players to compete… I expect more, honestly, from everyone.”
He was then asked whether he expected more investment in the summer, to which he simply replied, “Yes, 100%. I expect more from our technical director… It’s important you make a strong squad for these types of nights.
“We come here, and I’m not seeing my team trying to get a result here; it’s disappointing.”
Martinez also seemed to suggest Man United are predictable by stating that other teams “know every detail” and “if you don’t change next season, it’s a big problem.”
The defender finished by saying, “You can start changing managers, but what about other areas? I can’t say more. It’s easy to say the coach, it’s easy to say the players, but also we have to see other areas.”
To say Martinez’s interview was explosive is putting it lightly. He’s effectively called for higher-ups in the club to lose their jobs and basically said that their summer signings do not adequately improve their squad.
Man United were already on a dreadful run of form, but now it looks as if the whole club is imploding on itself.
For [Daniel Farke](https://www.leedsallover.com/tag/daniel-farke/) and Co., this couldn’t be coming at a better time.
Whilst on punditry duties on Amazon Prime, former Man United player Ashley Young reacted to Martinez’s controversial interview.
“It’s not needed at all after a game like today,” Young said.
“You’re going to play Leeds away; you don’t need it at all.”
Comments like these will surely cause a rift in the dressing room, and it’s hard to believe Martinez actually said all of this publicly.
I was already confident we could do a number on Man United at Elland Road. But now, the stars seem to be aligning all too well.
So well that it’s all becoming a little suspicious!
If there was ever a time to play Man United, it’s now, and the Whites must take full advantage of this.
