Hartlepool United suffered their third National League Cup defeat of the season after a 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle United Under-21s.
Ahead of the game, head coach Pete Wild had made clear he would be treating the game as a first team match and Reiss McNally, Luke Charman and Nathan Sheron all retained their places from the weekend's 4-2 victory over Forest Green Rovers, while new signing Max Clark made his first start for the club.
Here are our player grades from the home defeat.
Nathan Fisher: 5. Could do little with opening goal, swept home from close range. Didn't always look convincing in his area. Should have done more to prevent the Newcastle second.
Campbell Darcy: 6. Showed impressive athleticism down the right flank and promise in attacking areas. Booked.
Reiss McNally: 6 Booked, his fifth of the season, for an early foul. Helped marshalled the defence.
Charlie Penman: 5. His loose pass led to McNally committing a foul and getting booked. Not always convincing but made a good recovery challenge midway through the second half, grew into the game.
Max Clark: 6. Had his work cut out with Newcastle targeting the right flank but a good run out on his Pools debut. Got forward when he could.
Nathan Sheron: 6. Worked hard in central midfield and made one crunching tackle.
Charlie Thornton: 6. Worked hard, willing to get on the ball but struggled to impose himself first half.
Jack Nolan: 6. Showed glimpses of his quality and got a goal for Pools.
Luke Charman: 6. Put in a shift, saw a header cannon off the bar. Always works hard. Subbed midway through the half.
Will Harris: 6. Saw one early effort go wide but struggled to make an impact. Worked hard but subbed at half-time.
Terry Bondo: 6. Struggled to get into the game but did provide the assist for Nolan. Saw more of the action when Harris went off.
