Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford produced a frustrating performance during the 2-0 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid on the road.
The England international got the nod on the left wing against Diego Simeone’s side yesterday.
He had a lively start and should probably have scored from a sublime Lisandro Martinez pass.
However, his impact in the final third reduced as the game progressed. Rashford was also guilty of ignoring defensive duties, particularly in the opening half.
There were multiple situations where Ayden Heaven required more defensive cover. Rashford tracked back more after the break but was eventually subbed off.
Rashford ended the game with just a solitary shot, which was the big chance missed. He registered just 10 passes and 19 touches, losing eight out of his nine duels contested last night.
The 28-year-old also lost possession on multiple occasions and looks evidently low on confidence.
The experienced winger has not done enough to warrant a starting spot, and manager Michael Carrick must drop him to the bench for the weekend Premier League trip to Leeds United.
Leeds have been in superb form in the league this campaign and gave Arsenal a big scare at the Emirates Stadium last weekend. Jayden Bogle and James Justin caused havoc on the Gunners’ left side.
United will need someone who is defensively switched on to operate on the left wing. Bryan Mbeumo, who started on the left against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, could be tasked with the role.
Rashford looks like a liability at the moment, and we don’t see him featuring at all against Leeds.
United failed to beat Leeds in both meetings last term with a draw and a defeat, and they face another stern challenge, particularly with their high pressing, physicality and aerial presence in the box.
