Southampton summer target Henrik Falchener is drawing interest from clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Southampton were active in the summer transfer window and bolstered their centre-back ranks with the signings of Keven Schlotterbeck and Zach Abbott (loan). However, one defender targeted who slipped through their fingers was Henrik Falchener, with Norwegian side Viking FK rejecting a €9.5m (£8m) bid.
Since the Saints’ offer, Falchener’s star has continued to rise. Now, Florian Plettenberg reports that clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A are starting to show interest in the 23-year-old.
Championship Roundup
Falchener was among the starters for Viking as they secured their first UEFA Champions League point in a 3-3 draw with German giants Bayern Munich on Tuesday. He made the most defensive contributions of any player on the night with 17 (Fotmob).
Why top clubs are starting to target Henrik Falchener after Southampton’s summer interest
Falchener’s stock is surging, but it hasn’t happened overnight for the 23-year-old. After spells in various Norwegian academies, he spent three months without a club in 2022 following his Sandefjord release and played in the fourth and second tiers at FK Orn Horten and Egersunds IK before Viking came calling in 2025.
The Southampton summer target has progressed excellently since then, debuting for Norway earlier this year and playing in the FIFA World Cup. Now, with Champions League appearances to his name, Falchener has truly tested himself at the highest level.

Falchener’s 17 defensive contributions against Bayern show his ability in guarding the box and winning aerial duels. He never neglects the art of defending, but his passing stats show how he can fit the modern centre-back mould too.
Falchener completed 26 of his 27 passes against Bayern and two of those were line-breaking ones to get Viking up the pitch. In the league, the Norway international has a pass success rate of 89.1%, and his range of passing is shown with a 51.7% success rate with long balls (Fotmob).
The Verdict: Southampton now face an uphill battle if they choose to revive Henrik Falchener interest
It is not known if Falchener remains a target for Southampton. However, one thing for sure is that if they are still keen on bringing him in, they could face quite the battle for his signature.
The Saints may well view Falchener as a potential option for next summer, but his progress means he will only be a feasible target if they win promotion to the Premier League.
There is always the chance that the centre-back is snapped up before then too. As interest grows, someone could move to snap up Falchener in the winter.
As Falchener continues to impress in Norway, time will tell what his next move brings as top-flight clubs across England, Germany and Italy start to show interest.
