Sunderland fans have been reaching for their passports and planning their first European away day of the season for almost five months - and the time has finally arrived for a first trip to the continent since 1973.
Just as it was when Bob Stokoe and his FA Cup heroes faced Sporting CP in the Cup Winners Cup, Portugal will be the destination for the travelling faithful as the modern day Black Cats face second tier outfit Torreense on matchday two of the league phase of this season’s Europa League. Sunderland have released essential details for the near-4,000 supporters making the trip to the town of Leiria as Regis Le Bris’ men look to build on their opening night win against AZ Alkmaar.
