Manchester United suffered yet another setback as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening. The aftermath has merely intensified some growing concerns at the club. Michael Carrick's first full season in charge has proven far from straightforward. So far, he has secured just two victories from nine games. One arrived in the Premier League, a 5-2 triumph over Ipswich Town. The second was a 4-0 hammering of Champions League minnows Sabah FK.

In their second European match this term, United played well but failed to take their chances against an experienced Atletico side. Perhaps worse than the loss itself was Lisandro Martinez's post-match interview.

The Argentine delivered a damning assessment of the club's hierarchy and summer recruitment policy, implying the present squad falls short of Champions League standards.

He subsequently clashed with a team-mate, according to reports. Express Sport brings you the latest United news...

Martinez's post-match interview with Amazon Prime following the Atletico fixture proved explosive, as he specifically targeted director of football Jason Wilcox and also the state of the United squad. He did, however, firmly back his manager Carrick.

But according to Sky Sports, some of Martinez's team-mates were displeased with his conduct, with one individual said to have confronted him directly about it on the flight back to England.

The report reveals that aboard United's return journey, an unnamed player approached him to talk about the interview. It is further claimed that several other squad members are frustrated with the centre-back's behaviour.

This may come as little surprise given his outburst included the admission: "It is annoying, disappointing coming here and I am not seeing my team trying to get an amazing result."

Elsewhere, a separate post-match outburst has proved costly for Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa. United faced the Cottagers on September 20 and drew 1-1 at Craven Cottage.

Fulham had gone ahead in the 63rd minute through a Martinez own goal, only to concede just before second-half stoppage time when Matheus Cunha's heavily deflected strike beat Bernd Leno.

Following the final whistle, a frustrated Arbeloa delivered a fiery post-match interview, saying: "I think all fouls for them.

"Every decision was for them, and I knew, I knew after the game against Man City (a controversial 1-0 loss) that they don't let Manchester United lose here."

The comments have landed the Spaniard in serious trouble, resulting in a £25,000 fine from the FA along with an official warning.

The commission examining the matter "felt that those words suggested, not only that there was bias on the part of the match officials throughout the game on repeated occasions, but also that there may even have been an element of pre-meditation by them and/or others to try to make up for an error in a different match."
