Manchester United suffered yet another defeat under Michael Carrick after going down 2-0 to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening. The aftermath of the loss has only served to deepen a number of simmering concerns.

In his first complete season in charge, Carrick is enduring a torrid time. He has managed just two victories so far this campaign — a 5-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town and a 4-0 triumph against Champions League makeweights Sabah FK.

In their second European outing of the season, United were thoroughly outclassed by the Spanish heavyweights. Pablo Barrios put the hosts ahead inside the opening minute at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. United's night worsened when Leny Yoro was shown a red card in the 74th minute, before Ademola Lookman struck five minutes later to wrap up a 2-0 victory for the Spanish side.

Following the defeat, Lisandro Martinez launched a scathing attack on the club's board and their summer transfer dealings, implying the current squad falls short of the standard required for Champions League football. He has since reportedly clashed with a team-mate, as MEN Sport brings you the very latest from Old Trafford.

Martinez 'confronted'

Martinez's post-match interview with Amazon Prime following the Atletico defeat was damning, as he singled out director of football Jason Wilcox, while also throwing his support firmly behind manager Carrick. However, according to Sky Sports, some of Martinez's teammates were distinctly unimpressed with how he conducted himself in the interview.

One individual is claimed to have confronted him over it. The report claims that during United's flight back to England from Madrid, a player approached him regarding the interview. It is also suggested that several other squad members have been left disgruntled by the Argentine's behaviour.

That may come as little surprise given his rant included the admission: "It is annoying, disappointing coming here and I am not seeing my team trying to get an amazing result."

Arbeloafined for comments

Meanwhile, a separate post-match tirade has landed Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa in trouble. United travelled to the Cottagers on September 20 and secured a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Fulham had gone ahead in the 63rd minute courtesy of a Martinez own goal, but were pegged back deep into second-half stoppage time when Matheus Cunha's heavily deflected strike beat Bernd Leno.

Following the match, Arbeloa expressed his frustration with certain decisions and delivered a scathing post-match interview. He said: "I think all fouls for them. Every decision was for them, and I knew, I knew after the game against Man City (a controversial 1-0 loss) that they don't let Manchester United lose here."

This has landed the Spaniard in hot water as he has been slapped with a £25,000 fine by the FA and issued with an official warning for his comments. The commission examining the matter "felt that those words suggested, not only that there was bias on the part of the match officials throughout the game on repeated occasions, but also that there may even have been an element of pre-meditation by them and/or others to try to make up for an error in a different match."
