Newcastle United handed double injury boost after forward ruled out for three matches

Newcastle United injuries: Anthony Elanga is closing in on a return from a hamstring injury suffered last month.

Anthony Elanga is set to be back for Newcastle United ‘sooner than expected’ after progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old winger suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the 4-1 defeat at Leeds United last month and has not featured in any matches or training since.

Elanga enjoyed a positive start to the season, scoring his first two Premier League goals for the club in the opening two matches against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Anthony Elanga ‘doing well’

While Elanga’s injury was initially feared to be serious, recent noise out of the club has been far more positive.

It is now hoped Elanga’s return to action will be a matter of weeks away rather than months.

“He's doing well, he's progressing,” Jaissle said last week. “As you probably know, it was a tough injury, a longer one, but he has a brilliant mentality, a real professional. Hopefully, he can come back even a bit earlier than expected."

Double injury boost?

As per Mail Sport, Elanga is set to return to training very soon as he steps up his recovery. It has also been claimed that fellow winger Bazoumana Toure has avoided a serious injury after being forced off at Coventry City on Monday night.

After the match, Jaissle said: "Let's see [how he is]. It's too early to say anything. Hopefully it's nothing serious."
