Former Ipswich Town Women's player Freya Godfrey has won her first senior cap for England Lionesses.

The 21-year-old forward enjoyed a successful loan spell at Town from Arsenal during the 2022/23 season, netting eight goals in 16 games for Joe Sheehan's side.

Godfrey, who now plays for WSL side London City Lionesses, earned several call-ups to the England senior squad last term, but has now become the 245th player to play for the Lionesses after being handed her debut by Sarina Wiegman.

She came on to replace Norfolk-born Lauren Hemp on the hour mark in the 5-0 win over Greece at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, as England put themselves two games away from securing their place at the World Cup.

On making her debut, Godfrey wrote on social media: “Unbelievably proud moment to make my senior debut, so incredibly grateful!”

The Essex-born player has enjoyed a successful year, having been a standout performer for London City in their debut campaign in WSL 2 in 2025/26, with six goals and four assists.

Godfrey was voted the Players' Player of the Season and signed a new three-year contract at the London club in June 2025.
