"Pure class" - Jaissle backs Fernandez-Pardo after Coventry frustration

Matthias Jaissle has described Matias Fernandez-Pardo's finishing in training as "pure class", insisting the forward remains confident as he waits for his first Newcastle goal.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's visit of Aston Villa, the Newcastle boss also stressed the adaptation time needed after Fernandez-Pardo's summer move from Lille.

Fernandez-Pardo impressing in training

--------------------------------------

Asked about the forward's confidence this week, Jaissle said:

> "Really top (confidence-wise). We are convinced that it's just a matter of time. I watched him today in the session, when he got a couple of more finishes. Pure class. I have full conviction he will perform again on a good level and hopefully he will get the rewards."

Jaissle had [already backed Fernandez-Pardo to become a top striker before the Coventry trip](https://nufcblog.co.uk/100-sure---matias-fernandez-pardo-defended-by-matthias-jaissle-42482), and again pointed to the adjustment required after his summer move.

> "Young lads coming to the Premier League for the first time need that adaptation time. I got advice that I should be patient at least half a year with them.

>

> "Of course, you don't have the time in the Premier League so the development and adjustment needs to be as fast as possible.

>

> "I'm glad we're already seeing him in the situations that's he bringing the principles on the pitch. He's creating the chances and I think it's just a goal missing to give him the confidence back. He's an amazing player and he has so much potential."

At Coventry, Fernandez-Pardo rounded the goalkeeper only for Bobby Thomas to block his shot. It was one of several opportunities Newcastle couldn't convert before the game got away from us.

Plenty to like about Pardo's Coventry display

---------------------------------------------

I actually thought there was a lot to like about Pardo's performance on Monday. His decision-making wasn't the best, and there is clearly still plenty to work on, but he pressed well and kept a good attitude in the face of adversity.

If he keeps applying himself like that, I think it's only a matter of time before things start to click for him.

It's a cliche, but that first goal will be huge for him. Hopefully it's on Saturday. We desperately need a positive result, and the roof will lift off the place if he gets it.
