Jaissle optimistic about Newcastle midfielder’s return but cautious about defender

Matthias Jaissle explained his cautious optimism for the return of Tino Livramento from a calf injury, but said Jacob Ramsey is making good progress.

Livramento was ruled out of the World Cup with England over the summer, might be able to return in the coming weeks, according to Jaissle.

The Newcastle manager was more hopeful of a speedier return to the pitch for Jacob Ramsey who has been suffering with a thigh injury since the middle of September.

“With Tino, we need to be cautious and paying attention that it’s nothing where we hurry up. You know about his injury situation and history in the past,” Jaissle explained about Livramento. “But we are optimistic that also in the next weeks we’ll bring him back, but slowly and step by step,” he said.

On Jacob Ramsey: “With JJ, I think it’s a bit different, he’s making progress now much more, a little bit like Anthony [Elanga]. Hopefully also next week he can join in partially in the training and then we build it.”

Jaissle was also impressed with Matias Fernandez-Pardo in training this week.

On Fernandez-Pardo: “He has been really top. We are convinced that it’s just a matter of time [he scores].

“I watched him today after the session, when he got a couple of more finishes. Pure class.

“Full conviction that he will perform again on a good level, like he did and hopefully he will get the rewards.

“I like to have a chat always with my players, to have a close relationship with them.”
