Man Utd are in a sorry state right now on and off the pitch, which Leeds United should be looking to take full advantage of.
Sunday is the biggest fixture in the calendar for Leeds United as our bitter rivals make their way across the Pennines for a mouthwatering fixture.
For Leeds and Daniel Farke, there should be plenty of optimism that his side can produce a performance capable of putting them to the sword.
Steven Gerrard: “Brutal” – Man Utd crisis could hand Leeds United advantage at Elland Road
The reason for our optimism is what’s unfolding at Man Utd. Performances on the field are one thing, looking poorly coached and lacking fitness, but off the field is where the turmoil really lies.
After defeat in the Champions League vs Atletico Madrid, centre-back Lisandro Martinez took aim at the hierarchy for a bad summer transfer window.
“Yes, 100%. I expect more from our technical director… It’s important you make a strong squad for these types of nights,” he told Prime Video Sport.
“You can start changing managers, but what about other areas? I can’t say more. It’s easy to say the coach, it’s easy to say the players, but also we have to see other areas.”
In the buildup to Sunday, that is of course, dominating discourse in the media. For Leeds, it gives us an opponent that are the furthest thing away from a unified group.
On Stick To Football, Steven Gerrard believes that Michael Carrick needs to find a way to nip this situation in the bud. In doing so, he knows that beating Leeds is the only way to turn things around.
“I think he needs to win against Leeds massively, because I think the heat will just get hotter,” Gerrard said on Michael Carrick. “He needs to deal with this situation [Martinez’s interview] first this morning, whether he speaks to the press or there’s a statement.
“Put that to bed this morning and focus on the next game. There’s no point Michael Carrick worrying about four or five fixtures down the line; you never know. But, if he goes and beats Leeds, there’s something to build on.”
Speaking specifically about his time at Aston Villa unravelling, Gerrard outlined how quickly a manager can lose faith.
“I felt great at Aston Villa one day and three weeks later I lost six on the spin, and next minute you’ve gone down the M6 in tears,” Gerrard added.
“It unravels very quick. It’s brutal, the league especially if you’re Man United.”
Leeds United must make Michael Carrick’s life more difficult at Man Utd
Daniel Farke’s been an absolute expert in making Leeds one of the toughest teams to play against in the Premier League.
Our performances are making life so much tougher for even the best team in the division. We need to translate that into Sunday against a side staring down the barrel.
Carrick is under huge pressure, not helped by his players going for the board’s throat. So, a winning performance from us makes matters even worse for them lot.
It would be a tremendous way to get back to winning ways if we can put them to the sword.
