Newcastle Gets Clear Nick Woltemade Update After Juventus Loan Rumors

Nick Woltemade’s season-long loan at Juventus has already raised questions in Italy after a difficult start for the German international, with the striker yet to start a single game in Serie A and scoring only twice in the Europa League.

According to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, there is no chance of Woltemade returning to Newcastle United in January, despite speculation that Juventus could consider ending the arrangement early.

“Nick Woltemade will NOT be returning to Newcastle in January, despite speculation in Italy that Juventus could look to cut short his loan deal,” Hope reported.

The reason is straightforward: “There is no break clause on the part of either club and Juventus are committed to the agreement for the full season,” Hope wrote, adding the deal also contains no option or obligation to buy for the Serie A side.

Woltemade joined Juventus on loan for around £3.5 million, with the Italian club also covering his wages. The arrangement helped Newcastle fund the £51 million signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from a Squad Cost Ratio perspective this season.

Woltemade’s performances, however, have generated debate in Turin, with former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi suggesting this week that the club needs to add a recognized striker.

Newcastle’s longer-term plan could still involve a permanent departure, although the initial idea was to loan the German so he could hone his skill set elsewhere before establishing himself in Tyneside. Hope, however, reported the Magpies hope a productive season in Italy can protect the value of their £69 million record signing ahead of what he described as a likely sale next summer.
