Juventus finally started Randal Kolo Muani and Nick Woltemade together after the pair had impressed when playing alongside each other in the second half of several matches in the past. Their performances in those appearances had encouraged hopes that they could develop a strong partnership and provide the team with another reliable source of goals.
The opportunity came against Rennes last night, but the Old Lady could not secure a victory, settling for a 2-2 draw. Woltemade scored from the penalty spot, although neither forward managed to find the net from open play as Juventus struggled to get the goals they needed.
The result means there is still work to do before the partnership delivers the attacking impact that supporters are hoping to see. Juventus will have further opportunities to start the two forwards together, giving them more time to understand each other’s movement and develop a stronger connection in the final third.
Juventus seek a stronger attacking partnership
Many fans have believed that Juventus would score more regularly whenever both players were on the pitch together. Their previous performances had created expectations that the combination could offer the team greater attacking threat, so the failure to see either player score from open play against Rennes was likely to disappoint those supporters.
However, one match is not enough to determine whether the partnership can fulfil its potential. The two forwards will need time and further opportunities to demonstrate how effectively they can complement each other, particularly when Juventus are looking for goals against difficult opposition.
The club are expected to continue trusting both players individually, while the coaching staff remain hopeful that their combined qualities can produce better results. There is still confidence that the partnership can work, but the latest performance has shown that improvement is needed.

Spalletti expects more from both forwards
Luciano Spalletti has acknowledged that he wants more from the pair when they play together. Although the Juventus manager was satisfied with aspects of their performance, he believes their individual abilities should allow them to contribute more in attack.
The manager had expected a goal from the partnership, and he made his assessment clear at the end of the game, as quoted by Tuttojuve:
“We’ve already done that. They played well today, but I think I can expect more from both of them because their qualities are superior to their performance tonight. They played a good game today, but they can do more.”
Spalletti’s comments suggest that Juventus will continue working with both forwards while expecting a greater return from their attacking partnership in future matches.
