Journalist Fabio Caressa believes Juventus are struggling because their squad lacks the players Luciano Spalletti needs to implement his preferred style of play. Despite the club’s efforts to improve performances, the team have yet to demonstrate the consistency required to compete with the strongest sides in Italy and Europe.

The Bianconeri remain determined to challenge for major honours, including the Serie A title and the Europa League. However, competing in both competitions requires a squad capable of delivering strong performances against quality opposition throughout the campaign.

When comparing Juventus with rivals such as Inter Milan and AS Roma, concerns remain about the quality and balance of the available players. The club have worked hard to improve the team, but their performances have not always reflected their ambitions, leaving Spalletti with several challenges to address.

Juventus understand that improvements are necessary and are reportedly planning to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window. Recovering injured players will also be important as they look to build greater consistency and give the manager more options.

Caressa identifies a problem with Juventus’ squad

Caressa has been following Juventus and believes their difficulties are linked to the absence of a strong group of players capable of translating Spalletti’s ideas into performances on the pitch. In his view, the issue extends beyond individual displays and reflects a broader weakness within the team.

Speaking via Sky Sports Italia, Caressa explained that Juventus lack a strong core capable of helping the manager implement his tactical approach. He also highlighted a cultural issue within the squad, pointing to changes in the group of Italian players who previously provided leadership.

He said: “This team lacks a strong core that can convey the coach’s thoughts on the pitch. It’s also a cultural issue; the Italian block was in charge, now Locatelli is also missing, and it’s noticeable.”

January could offer Juventus a solution

Caressa’s assessment suggests Juventus need more than occasional improvements in individual performances. They require a stronger collective identity and players who can consistently deliver the manager’s instructions during matches.

The absence of Manuel Locatelli, whom Caressa specifically mentioned, appears significant to his argument about the team’s leadership and structure. Juventus will hope that injured players returning and potential January signings can help address these shortcomings.

Ultimately, strengthening the squad could give Spalletti a better opportunity to establish his system and help Juventus compete more consistently for their objectives this season.
