Journalist thinks the current Juventus formation has made them stronger

Since switching to a 3-5-2 formation following the shock loss to Lazio, Juventus has found a degree of stability, particularly at the back. Luciano Spalletti has been constantly required to find solutions because his Juventus side has lacked balance and stability over recent seasons, and the manager now believes he has identified the right formation.

The 3-5-2 makes Juventus difficult to break down, while also allowing the team to field both strikers at the same time. This is intended to help them create more chances and score more frequently. That attacking improvement has not fully materialised yet, but defensively, the Old Lady has become one of the hardest teams to score against, and they will be eager to maintain that record.

Defensive Progress Under Spalletti

So far, Juventus has performed well with the new system, although further tests lie ahead. Those upcoming matches will determine whether the 3-5-2 is genuinely the right approach or whether another tactical adjustment will eventually be required.

For now, the team appears settled in the new structure. Journalist Gianni Balzarini has been impressed by what he has seen while Juventus plays in this formation, and he appears to support the idea of continuing with it. As quoted by Tuttojuve, he said: “Spalletti would like to continue with the 3-5-2, I actually said it in part, that is, it gives them more solidity. It’s basically the concept of the first one not conceding and then having the possibility of fielding two attackers at the same time or at least two players with an attacking inclination.”

A System Still Being Tested

Balzarini’s assessment highlights the central appeal of the formation: it prioritises defensive solidity while retaining the flexibility to deploy two attacking players. For Juventus, that balance could prove valuable as the season progresses.

However, the system must continue to deliver results against stronger opposition. If Juventus can combine their improved defensive organisation with greater cutting edge in attack, the 3-5-2 may become the foundation Spalletti has been searching for. Until then, the formation remains a promising but still unproven solution.
