Roma moved two points clear at the top of Serie A with an impressive 5-2 win over Juventus, who have lost each of their last three league games.

Here, we will round up Roma’s win and the rest of the action from Serie A match-day 4.

Roma put five past Juventus

Manuela Giugliano required just four minutes to open the scoring in Roma’s away clash against Juventus. The Roma captain let fly from distance, with her swerving shot proving too difficult for Daniëlle de Jong to stop. Buoyed by the early opener, the reigning Serie A champions quickly added to their lead through Giada Pellegrino and Alice Corelli, leaving Juventus trailing by three goals inside 15 minutes.

Matters got worse for the hosts when Tatiana Pinto was penalised for handling the ball in the box in first half stoppage time. Giugliano made no mistake from the resulting spot-kick, driving it with precision into the bottom corner to seal her brace and send Roma into the break with a four-goal lead.

After a forgettable first period, Juventus attempted to battle back in the second half. Alba Redondo reduced the deficit with her third league goal of the season. The Spain international then turned provider for Matilde Pavan to fire a low shot through Rachele Baldi’s grasp in the 77th minute, sparking faint hopes of a late comeback.

However, any aspirations of salvaging a point were quashed by Valentina Bergamaschi’s 89th-minute effort. The substitute calmly lifted the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper to finish off an incisive move. The defeat has left Juventus languishing in ninth spot and just two points clear of basement side Sassuolo.

Fiorentina fight back against Parma

Fiorentina fought back from a goal down to take three points from their away meeting with Parma. Gaia Distefano put the hosts in front inside the opening half hour. The 24-year-old took aim from the edge of the box, producing an emphatic strike that whistled into the top corner.

However, Distefano’s joy turned to frustration when she was penalised for a foul in the opposite box in first half stoppage time. Emma Severini embarked on a slow run-up before she sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to slot home her penalty.

With the scoreline level at the break, Fiorentina completed the turnaround inside 10 minutes of the restart despite Camelia Ceasar’s best efforts. The shot-stopper scrambled back to her line to push away Iris Ómarsdóttir’s deflected effort, but she could not prevent Katla Tryggvadóttir from nodding in the rebound.

Como 1907 rescue point on Serie A match-day 4

Sassuolo’s Lana Clelland broke the deadlock with a sensational long-range effort in the 40th minute. Spotting the goalkeeper off her, Clelland raced onto Paulina Stanić’s and sent her first-time shot looping over the backpedalling Francesca Durante.

Trailing at the break, Como hit back in the early stages of the second period. Agnese Bonfantini won the ball on the right flank and held off a challenge as she drove into the box and set up Valentina Giacinti for a first-time finish at the near post. However, parity lasted just four minutes as Stanić quickly restored Sassuolo’s advantage. The 19-year-old got across her marker to fire home from Clelland’s assist.

The visitors looked set to hold on until Sara Caiazzo was penalised for a clumsy foul in stoppage time. Assuming responsibility, Tessa Wullaert fired the subsequent penalty high into the net to rescue a point for her side, even though they failed to preserve their 100 percent record.

AC Milan ease past Ternana

AC Milan, meanwhile, cruised to a commanding 3-0 win over Ternana. Sara Stokić netted a first half brace to put the home side in control. Then, with less than 15 minutes of regulation time left to play, Angelica Soffia powered home an emphatic header from Marta Mascarello’s inswinging cross, wrapping up Milan’s second league win of the season.

Lazio wait for a win continues as Inter lose perfect record

Elsewhere, Lazio and Como played out a stalemate on Sunday. The hosts went close to breaking the deadlock in the first period, when a combination of goalkeeper and post thwarted Manuela Sciabica. After surviving that scare, Como thought they had taken the lead in the 54th minute. However, the joy was short-lived as Nadine Nischler saw her effort chalked off for offside.

Like Nischler, Inter’s Michele Cambiaghi had an effort ruled out in Saturday’s away clash against Napoli. The visitors were held to a goalless draw, ending their perfect start to the Serie A campaign. That said, they will be pleased with the fact they are yet to concede a league goal this season after recording four consecutive clean sheets.
