Luciano Spalletti is delighted that Juventus secured a victory over Napoli at the weekend, with the manager believing the team retreat before the match played an important role in preparing his players for the challenge.
Following the defeat against Genoa, Spalletti decided to take decisive action by ordering his players into a retreat. The squad remained together at the club’s facility until their next match, giving the manager an opportunity to bring everyone closer and address the issues affecting the team.
The decision appears to have produced the desired response, as Juventus came through a difficult encounter with a victory they might not have secured during a less settled period. Spalletti is pleased with the outcome, although he does not believe the team will need to repeat the same approach every time they want to win.
Spalletti explains why the retreat helped Juventus
Juventus showed greater confidence during the match, particularly after the break, when they managed to make progress and put Napoli under pressure. Although their overall performance was not exceptional, the players continued to push for a positive result and eventually got their reward.
The manager believes spending time together helped his squad reconnect and rediscover the sense of unity required to move forward. He also acknowledged that his players did not always make the right decisions, but was satisfied with their willingness to keep trying.

Manager praises his players after Napoli victory
Speaking via Tuttojuve, Spalletti explained why the retreat had been beneficial and praised the collective response from his players.
“The retreat was useful because they’re a group of guys who love each other and needed to be close, to find something familiar. You reconnect with the group, you find yourself within a group that loves each other, and it becomes easier to take that step forward. They did it during the match, they gained ground, and in the second half they deserved to win. Admittedly, they didn’t play an extraordinary game, but they deserved the win. We didn’t always choose well, but we had shots on target. We had four shots on target, seven off, and seven shots were blocked by defenders inside the box, some of them a bit awkwardly. But we tried. They really made these steps forward, and then they were rewarded with a fantastic goal from a talented player.”
Spalletti will hope the victory provides a foundation for greater consistency, allowing Juventus to build momentum without needing another retreat to restore confidence and togetherness.
