Weston McKennie was substituted at half time during Juventus’ victory over Napoli, despite being one of the team’s standout performers in the opening period. The American midfielder had made an important contribution to their performance, but his early withdrawal has raised concerns about his fitness as the club prepares for its upcoming fixtures.

The first half ended goalless, although Juventus produced an assured display and showed plenty of positive signs. McKennie was involved in much of the good work the Old Lady attempted, helping the team maintain its intensity and create opportunities against a difficult opponent.

Juventus were unable to find the breakthrough before the midfielder left the pitch, but his absence after the interval was more concerning than the scoreline. Being taken off at half time suggested that he was experiencing discomfort, prompting questions about whether he had picked up an injury during the match.

The supporters eventually had plenty to celebrate alongside the players after Juventus secured the victory. However, Luciano Spalletti will also be concerned about the condition of one of his most important squad members, particularly with more demanding matches approaching.

McKennie suffers an adductor problem

A report via Football Italia confirms that McKennie had suffered an adductor problem, which explains why he could not return after the break and had to be replaced. His withdrawal was therefore related to a physical issue rather than simply a tactical decision by the manager.

The development will be frustrating for Juventus, especially considering the midfielder’s influence during the first half. He had been among their best performers against Napoli, and the club will want to establish the extent of the problem before making decisions about his availability.

Juventus hope to have McKennie back soon

Injuries have been a problem for McKennie and Juventus this season, making this latest concern particularly unwelcome. The club will be keen to help the American recover as quickly as possible, although his return will depend on how he responds to the adductor problem.

Juventus need to maintain their winning form, and they cannot afford unnecessary setbacks as their schedule becomes increasingly demanding. Their next assignment is a trip to the Netherlands to face AZ Alkmaar, before they travel to Florence for a meeting with Fiorentina.

Those fixtures will test the depth of Spalletti’s squad, particularly if McKennie is unavailable. His fitness will therefore be closely monitored, with Juventus hoping that the issue is not serious enough to keep him out for an extended period.
