Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade's Juventus surprise after no goals in eight Serie A…

Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade has continued to impress during his loan spell with Italian giants Juventus - and has now been recognised as the Serie A club’s most valuable player for October.

The former Stuttgart star appeared for the Magpies during the first weeks of the new season before joining Juve on a season-long loan in the final days of the summer transfer window. After making his first appearances as a substitute in league fixtures with AC Milan and Sassuolo, Woltemade marked his first start with a goal in a 5-0 hammering of Europa League rivals NEC and UEFA’s secondary club competition has provided a rich source of goals for the German after he also found the net in a win against Celta Vigo and a draw with French club Rennes.

As it stands, just two of Woltemade’s eight league appearances have come as part of Juve’s starting eleven - although both of those led to 2-0 wins against Lecce and Napoli. After receiving praise from a number of outlets in recent weeks, the Magpies forward has landed the club’s player of the month award (MVP) for October and he will now hope to keep impressing as Juventus prepare to visit Dutch Cup winners AZ Alkmaar in their latest Europa League fixture.

Woltemade earns praise from Italy legend

Woltemade’s impact at Juve has drawn praise from former Italy defender Alessandro Costacurta as he gave his take on how the Serie A giants can get the best out of Germany international throughout the remainder of his loan.

Speaking to Italian outlet Tutto Juve last week, the former AC Milan stalwart said: “Woltemade is the only forward you can play the ball into at his feet and use to bring the team up the pitch. I thought he was a good solution, although he can improve. I believe he can play as a target man, but he still has a lot to work on. The players around him are not moving well enough yet.”
